When Art & Science Combine . . . A Makerspace in a Box.

Each Box contains:
  • All of the science and art tools and supplies needed to dive into to explore, investigate, discover, and create through two challenges!

  • Resource guides to provide inspiration and information about the topics.

  • Access to live webinars in which we will answer your questions and help you to brainstorm new solutions to the challenges. We may also explore some cool research and exhibits connected to the challenges.

  • Instructions for sharing your creations with the world in the online gallery.

  • Box #1: Sculpture – Based on 2020 Exposed at Helen Day Art Center and inspired by artist/engineer Arthur Ganson’s kinetic sculptures at the MIT Museum

  • Box #2: Photography – Based on Dona Ann McAdams: Performative Acts at Helen Day Art Center and the Physics and Photography Workshop at the MIT Museum
    How can we use light to create art and learn about the world around us? In this makerspacebox, you will receive all the materials you need to use a camera or cell phone to capture and explore movement, the tiniest details of everyday objects, and create stunning photographic compositions with the physics of light. *Strobe light included; camera and cell phone not included

  • Box #3: Origami – Based on the Knot Just Numbers Workshop at the MIT Museum
    What do paper cranes, robots, and engineering all have in common? They have all been inspired by origami to create art and solve real world problems. In this makerspacebox, you will program your own self-folding robots, create 3D modular art, and more!
