Planned Giving

The Anne August Legacy Society

Make a gift for generations to come.

Anne August was a generous philanthropist invested in sustaining organizations for the long term. Her bequest to the Art Center enabled us to invest in the future of our education programs and the start of an endowment for long-term support.

The generosity of Ms. August and many like-minded people in the decades since our inception (also made possible by a bequest) have enabled the Art Center to flourish as a place where internationally and nationally recognized artists and local Vermont artists exhibit their work.

This is the power that an individual can have by leaving a planned gift. We invite you to become a part of this legacy by making a planned gift of your own to HDAC.

There are many ways to make a lasting gift to HDAC. Some of the most common ways include: bequests, gifts of art, gifts of a life insurance policy or IRAs, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts and gifts of real estate.

HDAC recommends that you discuss your gift plans with your own financial and legal advisers. Here at HDAC we also are happy to discuss your plans and would welcome the opportunity to learn more about your goals for your gift.

Make a gift in your will

Naming HDAC as a beneficiary of a will, a trust, a retirement fund or *life insurance policy (make this a link) is a remarkable way to leave a legacy.

Sample Bequest Language:

I give [the sum of $          or          percentage] of my estate to the Helen Day Art Center, a Vermont not-for-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization having an address of 90 Pond Street, PO Box 411, Stowe, Vermont 05672 to be used to support the general purpose of the Helen Day Art Center.

*If you have a fully paid insurance policy you no longer need, you can gift the policy to HDAC and take a tax deduction for the value of the policy at the time of the gift.

Gifts from a Traditional IRA

If you are 72 or older, you can donate up to $100,000 to HDAC from your IRA or 401K without it being counted as taxable income. This gift can be used as your required minimum distribution (RMD). Right now, during COVID-19, the required minimum distribution has been suspended.
